Day 1- Courage

The other day, I woke up from an awful dream and I remember feeling so alone. After I woke up, my entire day was wrecked. I feared the worst and thought that if I dreamt it, reality would catch up. This is what anxiety looks like for me- always fearing the absolute worst case scenario. And, friends, I sat in that feeling for way longer than I should have. I let fear consume my thoughts and went through the rest of my day afraid of so much. Until I chose to flip the script.

Instead of allowing myself to get caught up in my own thoughts, I battled against lies with Words of Truth straight from my Father’s heart.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." So we may boldly say: "The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:6

And, friends, that changed my day and it continues to change my life. When I rely on myself to battle fear and anxiety, I leave the battle weary and discouraged. But, when I rely on God for courage, I leave the battle with confidence and assurance in who He is and what He has already done in my life. That’s the difference.

So, today, when the enemy wants to speak fear into your life, choose the opposite. Choose truth. Choose courage. Choose God. I promise, when you lean into His promises, you’ll win every time.

And if you don’t know where to start, start with this little prayer and keep surrendering. I believe in you, friends. Courage starts with choosing a Father who fights the battles so you don’t have to do it yourself.

God, I give it all to you. My fears and anxieties are yours. The enemy doesn’t have a foothold in my life anymore. I choose You. I choose the courage that You show me how to fight with. I’m done doing it by myself. I need You. So, God, I lay it all at your feet and trust You with it. Today, I’m choosing courage to do the difficult things. Because you have given me power through Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
